It was originally settled upon after recording that it will be released on Mike Will's Ransom 2 debut album, but some persuaded Lamar to retain it for his next album of his own. With the purpose of recording with Gucci Mane, Mike Would produced the beat for 'Humble' but later showed it to Lamar. The single reached the Billboard Hot 100 at number four, being Lamar's second highest-charting single after 'Humble' as a solo artist. On April 18, 2017, the music video for the album, 'DNA', was released. 'Loyalty' featuring Rihanna, was released on June 20, 2017, to rhythmic and urban contemporary radio as the album's second single. On the US Billboard Hot 100, it reached number one, and on the Canadian Hot 100 chart, number two.
